Lightning never catches the thunder; it only can manage to stay one-step behind. It wasn’t a thought just an action, that came naturally. No matter how far one went the other followed, sometimes closer but never too far behind. As the storm that raged across countries the people always knew, once they heard the dark rumble of thunder the crack and yellow flash of lightning would appear endlessly trying to catch up. Closer and closer the bright yellow pursued the black sound. The lazy gray rain never managed to drain the storm to end the impossible pursuit, though it tried.
An event not thought to happen occurred fatefully that day on the border. The lightning managed to blaze the moment the thunder boomed. Both sound and light took place in a single instant. The energy emanated from the crack of light overwhelmed the hammer of sound, forever changing their roles. Now when the storm raged, the lightning cracked first to light the way for the dark rumble of thunder that was soon to follow.
