I'm glad I wasn't the only one who asked that. I mean, I do care about the people in New Orleans and Mississippi, but its a kinda interesting question. Straight dope says Coriolis.

Arg! Fuck Straight Dope, Mr. Wizard said that this effect made the tubs drain that way! I have a much stronger history with Mr. Wizard than with Straight Dope.
