The library had the Bright Eyes CD with the song I was looking for. Seems like a pretty good CD.

I was reading Fizzbang's post this morning about problems with his iPod. Total drag, got me thinking ( Read more... )

I think it's the same as with lots of other electronic components, e.g. hard drives. People make big noises about how reliable or unreliable a company is, but in my experience, it doesn't work that way. Everything at the same price point is going to be basically the same reliability, give or take a little (and a little luck). If you get unlucky, you give the company a bad name among your friends, if you don't, you just look confused at the guy who's complaining.

I had a slightly bad iPod - battery stopped holding a charge. But I also have a very good one that's been going for a while and holding up fine. Enh.

I purchased my Vaio shortly before graduation and the screen just bit the dust. I got my ipod just after graduation and I'm thrilled that it's still holding out.

I don't get a sense that anyone else makes a better product than apple. I know there are horror stories about every brand, but though I feel like Sony and Dell may make comparable products.

Some people are just rougher on their electronics. What makes the difference, I think, is that Apple has really good warranties, so keep that in mind.

Actually, I've had the total opposite experience with Apple - seems like things have improved over the past few years. My first iPod (received in 2004) experienced battery failure after just 9 months, but it only took 10 minutes in an Apple Store before they gave me a new unit right then and there after a few simple tests. That unit is still alive (and now I have a happy little Nano too, knock on wood).

It's kinda just a crapshoot. Intel laptops crap out too but there's more manufacturers so people don't blame the brand. Even still, most of the people I know with Mac laptops love them (even though they're not for me).
