Title: The Worst that Could Happen

Summary: Tag to episode 14. For 10_themes, prompt 04: Fear.
It was suicide to fight a Boukenger unhenshined. Masumi knew that, understood it in a place deep in his soul as Natsuki fired at him over and over and he felt his henshin fail. He knew but he threw himself at her anyway, grappling barehanded as he screamed into her empty visor, willing her to break through the hold the enemy’s device had on her even as his fingers sought desperately to destroy it.
Later, when he pulled Natsuki into him to stop her fruitless pounding on his chest as she yelled at him, he would not think how easily she could have thrown him off of her, how easily crushed his skull with her henshin- and darkness-increased strength. He would not wake up at night, trembling and gasping with nightmares of what would have happened to him if he failed. He didn’t need to. Akashi had already shown him the worst that could happen to him, and death meant nothing next to watching Natsuki be destroyed.
