Hello, and welcome to MovieFone

This weekend Kerry and I were talking about the Seinfeld phony movie titles (I can't think of the term for a show or comic's "universe" and it's driving me CRAZY. Does anyone know what word I'm looking for?). They kept popping in my head all week. To sate my curiosity I had to make up this list - I think I got everything ( Read more... )

Awesome list! I never would have remembered half of these.

But dude, Plan 9 is totally a real movie! Don't tell me you've never seen Ed Wood? It's a masterpiece, you must Netflix it immediately. Johnny Depp, Jeffrey Jones, Marty Landau playing Bela Lugosi, and Bill Murray playing a man named Bunny.

I totally used the internet to come up with most of these - I also wouldn't remember half of them on my own. :)
I HAAAAAVE seen Ed Wood! It's one of Liam's favorites. Actually, since I checked how it was referenced in the Seinfeld episode, it's a pretty weak entry on this list. It doesn't fit this category since Jerry mentions it as a cultural reference. Not really like the other made up flicks. My bad. Good spot.

I think I have Plan 9 From Outer Space on VHS in a box in my basement somewhere. I say that about a lot of things, though. It's amazing how many things I think I have in a box in my basement somewhere.

Was that the movie they were going to see in the episode in the Chinese restaurant?

Well, upon FURTHER examination it doesn't fit because it's a real movie, but they were going to see it. Good spot again! The Chinese Restaurant ep - the nerd in me (who happens to be with me at work today) wikied it.
When David presented the episode to NBC executives, he received a negative reaction. The network felt that there was no real story and viewers would not be interested. Executive Warren Littlefield commented that he thought there were pages missing from the script he had received. David argued that each character had a storyline; Jerry's story was he recognized a woman but did not know from where, Elaine's story was that she was very hungry and George's story was that he was unable to use the phone. NBC disagreed and objected to the broadcast of the episode. To satisfy the executives, staff writer Larry Charles suggested Jerry's storyline to be on his way to Plan 9 from Outer Space, and thus placing the episode in "real time".
i was wondering why they threw that one real movie in there.

I much prefer the descriptions for Death Blow and especially The Pain and the Yearning. "An old woman experiences pain and yearning."
Every time I read it, I laugh.
I want to see so many of these movies.
