Are Americans really too afraid to do anything? Is that why nothing has been done, why Congress has been, under the guidance of the Bush administration, restricting many of the freedoms granted to American citizens by right, and basically turn the country into something it was never intended to be? We actually had a huge debate about this in one of my classes--radio and audiodrama-- Everyone was all worked up about it, but no one was willing to DO anything. I think we as a people are too comfortable and too lazy to DO anything. It breaks my heart, too, because the truth is, we really are heading toward a "big brother" type world, and I really don't want to be a part of that. And what's worse-- all this violation of the bill of rights is really us losing the "war on terror". Wasn't it Ben Franklin who said "Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety" ?
Even if it wasn't him. It's still and essential truth. Obviously we've lost our right to liberty-- and we sure aren't getting any safer when we now have to fear our own government.

Indeed. I knew things would get bad when Bush was first elected, but when he was brought back in for a second term, pretty much everyone over here in Europe that I know of (including friends from Denmark, Spain, the UK, Hungary, Norway, the Netherlands and, obviously, Ireland) collectively groaned, sighed, and continued to watch as Bush and his administration went on to do whatever they wanted. They have used fear as a means of diverting attention from the real villains of 9/11, to get to the oil, and we didn't need Michael Moore to tell us that. I watched on the news once that the government wasn't allowing cameras at the scenes when American soldiers arrived home in coffins. The official number of American troops dead from conflict in Iraq is 2,000, but apparently it's closer to 15,000. They have used fear to remove any basic right that would let people stand up to them in their own country ( ... )
