Thanks for that perspective. The issue got so polarized so quickly, that I don't think people are really thinking about why the incidents at Al Graib happened, or about that this isn't a unique incident, something that just happened in this war.
You are welcome - although I don't think I did a very good job covering all the areas I wanted to... but then again - that would really piss off the "lj-cut" fanatics.
People have such a hard time putting themselves in other shoes daily. This is one example of how - if you ARE going to let your emotions get the best of you - you MUST try to at least find out what walking a mile is like in the shoes of people that extract information from POWs.
i think this would have been much less of a scandal if the army personnel weren't posing like these were goofy family vacation pictures. i'd like to believe it was part of an interrogation, but smile! *click* i'm sending this one to the parents back home!
we have a president that actually uses terms like "evil-doers" to justify war. of course the righteous would never resort to such tactics! gasp! horror! it's good to know our president is the right hand of god.
and that's one less thing - you know - as long as our leader is the right hand of god. (He could definetely work on that kind of delivery.)
I have been watching the committee hearings all day. At first I got the feeling that I was the only one who believes what I do - but then I realized that there is no way for anyone in context to express anything other than discust without drawing total global flame.
I'm not saying that what I suggested is standard practice - it's not. But it would not supprise me if it's going on - and to be totally honest, I'd use that kind of method. But I sure as hell would not enlist the help of National Guard or Reserve MPs to be a part of it. That's just asking for trouble.
The whole "smile - click" thing is what bothers me, there are pleanty of ways to convice prisoners they are being photographed without doing that. It could have been that having low level

Have you listened to any Xiu Xiu.
Sometimes when I listen to them I think
they may be a group you'd dig.
If you have not - I'd suggest downloading:
I Luv The Valley OH!
Bunny Gammer
Crank Heart
- just to wet your whistle.
