grey lunar landscapes into the sea

I am still working up the sketch and trying to decide how tall the composition needs to be. Look at me; posting color thumbbails like a Real Artist (tm). Damn, I'm awesome! <3

You can click to see it bigger, if you're so inclined; and lover, you should. ;-)

I am having tree-branchy good fun with this one; I'm also pondering doing something like a few petals, large and blurry towards the bottom, as if they're falling towards the viewer. Mmm, must ponder it.

'Color thumbnail' was, in this case, shamefully inaccurate of me; really this is a greyscale thumbnail.. trying to work out how dark the background should go, how light the horse should be, etc. and etc. It may stay grey.. except for the cherry blossoms, make those pink? Ehh.. ehh.. seems too purty. It just needs some depth of field, I think. What do you think?

Anyway! I'm going to hazard a guess that you're seeing an optical illusion on the color, small vs. large; it's the same image, just on the embedded one I told LJ to squash it down to 500 pixels wide. Black matte vs. white matte; or teal vs. white in this case.

*GASP!* How do you always know the exact, perfect thing to say / show me? This is wonderful!! I'd heard of ikebana before, but not in a million years would I have thought to arrange a painting like the Japanese arrange flowers.. asymmetrical and simple and elegant. *HUGS!* I am always tempted to put too much stuff in my paintings; it never works when I do, but it's so hard to decide where to go next.. well, now I am babbling; I am going to go read. And bounce. I was sitting here getting very frustrated; now I'm very inspired and I wish you were close enough for me to pop over with some soup and a box of Kleenex.

Heehee.. from the site you linked..

SOGETSU SCHOOL of IKEBANA believes that anyone can arrange IKEBANA anywhere, and with almost anything.

.. like horses, for instance..? Heee!
