And if you don't feel like reading everything, please please please just at ( Read more... )

:( I was doing my ride-alongs with the police for school and one of the officers had been wanting a pit bull for a long time. And his wife's sister works for a vet and some woman brought in her pit bull to be put to sleep because it bit her. We went in and saw that dog and it was the sweetest thing in the world. It was licking my hand and trying to get me to play with her. So then we called the lady to find out why it bit her and she said she was trying to break up a fight. WTF?! Yeah..stick your hand in between two fighting dogs idiot..yeah you're going to get bit. And she didn't even know that it was the pit bull that bit her!! She just didn't like it! People are freaking morons! If I could hae pets where I'm living, I would have taken her so she didn't get put to sleep if the officer didn't.

BSL is ridiculous and stupid.

It's absolutely horrible because Cincinnati is one of the cities that has a ban on pit bulls. The shelters won't adopt them out; if they find a stray pit, the owner has 72 hours to claim their dog or it gets put down; if the owner can't show proper insurance forms and all the legal bullshit that is required to have one in the areas that do allow pit bulls, they are fined; pit bulls that are given up ("surrendered") are just automatically destroyed. People won't even come pick up their dogs from the shelters because they would rather their dog get euthanized then have to pay the fines. Sean and I would go to the Clermont County shelter once a week to visit the dogs (this was back before we got Lola and before we were able to adopt a dog), especially the pit bulls, because we knew they were going to die. It broke my heart. I cried every single time I left that shelter. It disgusts me how these innocent creatures are treated. ::sigh ( ... )

I really can't watch it with my dial up--but Kristie, know that I am on your side with this shit. I have a german shepard, I know how these "aggressive" (bullshit) dogs are handled and it's horrible. I've never met a bad pit-bull either. An ex-friend of mine had a few of them and they were always well behaved and wonderful dogs (minus the humping because one was a prize-winning show dog and it wasn't neutered:P) it's the trainor NOT THE DOG that should be punished.

As a matter of fact, when we got my Shep we were pretty sure that the people that had him before tried to train him as a fighting dog...
