29. What item does your character wish he possessed that he doesn't? How badly does he want it and
what would he do to get it?
If he had to pick one item that he'd be willing to kill for, it'd probably be season tickets to the Red Socks...in decent seats. His Uncle Donald (From the Boston Branch of the Hunt Family) Instilled in young Ethan a strong sense of justice and the desire to always cheer for the underdog-in both life and sports.
He's joking of course.
Because-No IMF despite it's secrecy and "ghosts within the company" status, it somehow cannot get decent seats for any of it's employees at the Socks games (to CIA agents, that's a conspiracy of the highest caliber)
And, since this is pre-Mi2 Ethan, no he hasn't heard about the "Breaking the Bambino's curse" yet.
• Think back to when your character was five years old, eight years old, twelve years old.
Write a holiday gift wish-list from his point of view.
Ethan: Age 5
-Green Bay Packers Cheese Helmet
-Football (Cause Bobby Sharp down the road threw mine into the lake.
-Uncle Donald to come home from the war. (This'd be the Vietnam war)
Ethan: Age 8
-Baseball.
-Pony (That I can actually ride)
-The TV set to be fixed.
Ethan: Age 12
-Stereo Equiptment
-22. Caliber Rifle (Or failing that, BB gun)
-10-speed bike
• How does your character feel about physical possessions in a general sense?
Ethan learned from an early age not to be materalistic. His parents weren't poor, but they weren't upperclass-or middleclass for that matter. He grew up expecting very little for his birthday, his toys consisting of hand-me-downs from his mother's family. "New" gifts were rare, and usually held some additional practical manner. This has translated into his adult life (As he has no reguard for expensive posesssions, utilizing them only as tools. Many a time has IMF provided top of the line equiptment only to have it reeturned to them in deplorable condition)
-Ethan's always been big on animals. During the course of his childhood he owned a Rabbit named Richard, a duck, At least Four cats, two dogs (Not including the working ones on the farm) His pony/horse Mathilda, and his half-dog/half-wolf hybrid Kafka, who his father found and nursed back to health in the cow-pasture. They sort of substituted for his lack of toys.
30. What is your character's most treasured possession?
Being a secret Agent, Ethan's most prized posession is his Beretta, since in a pinch, it could save his life. (One of the things that Jim Phelps drilled into him, "Never be without some sort of firearm") His gun translates into his civilian life as well, since it was the weapon he intitally trained with and the one that Phelps handed to him after he'd completed his IMF training. It reminds him of his mentor and friend before he became a backstabbing murderer before he was disavowed and disgraced.

1. What is your character's secret dream? What one goal, ambition or desire does she keep hidden
from others, and why? What would she do to achieve it?
Ethan's goal, his one deep dark secret that he wants to keep hidden-is that he dreams of having a normal relationship. He wants to meet the right girl, settle down, and have a family, much like his father. Despite the general feeling around the office "people like us can't have normal relationships" Ethan believes in the power of staying together. He dreams of a suburban house, a partner in life and love, and children to continue on his family name. Someone who will accept him for himself.
Obviously, the poor kid hasn't been in a serious relationship quite yet.
There's not much that he can do to achieve it, save keep hoping and continuing to keep his personal life and his work related life (As cool as it is to walk into bars and chat up the nearest woman, "Oh yeah, I'm a secret agent" Most of them don't buy it) seperate. However, this is taking a definite toll on the young man's sanity.
• Write a list of your character's top five lifetime achievement goals.
1. Go to College (Accomplished)
2. Become a Famous Actor (....Somewhat)
3. Do the American Dream Thing. (Not yet)
4. Retire and write memoirs detailing fantastic life. (....Impossible to Accomplish)
5. Climb a Really Big Mountain (...Not yet)
• Starting at age 15, write down one major goal for each five years of your character's life until
current age.
15-Get Part in School Play
20-Get Part in College production and get resume to Universal.
25-Survive Basic Training and pull off the greatest prank in Agency History.
30-Do Job to the best of my ability.
Current. (Ethan is 35): Take a long vacation and keep IMF from finding out where I am.
2. What is your character's worst fear? How far would she go to avoid it?
Ethan's worst fear is one of those deep dark secrets that He'd never admit to unless he absolutely had to. Once upon a time as a young and naive deep cover agent with an operating Legend working a survey op with Phelps, Ethan was hiding in a Thailand warehouse. Ethan gave chase when the target ran and ended up in a shipping warehouse where-you guessed it-they were shipping animals.
The Target, in an attempt to throw Ethan off his trail knocked over several monkey-crates being sent to "Marburg" Germany. One of the monkeys turned out to be rather pissed about being caged (and perhaps experimented on) And decided to vent his frustrations on Ethan with a few well-placed teethmarks and scratches. Ethan panicked and ended up shooting out one of the windows-triggering the alarm. The Target escaped (Later caught by Phelps) but Ethan soon came down with a mild fever.
worried, he was quarantined for a week for fear of disease (The Agency was a bit spooked finding out that the monkeys came from Marburg) but it turned out he'd only had a mild reaction to the monkey.
Since then, Ethan avoids monkeys. His mishap has spread to a full blown mistrust of the animals, with everything from their grabbing little hands and tiny human faces suspect.
3. If your character could be any famous person, whom would she choose and why?
Ethan's been famous people. (Although without their consent). He's doubled successfully for Two Actors when it was rumored a studio was a front for a nuclear operation.
• List your character's favorite celebrities.
Before being recruited, Ethan wanted to be an actor-so it's only natural that he follow movies with avid interest. While he's noticed that his interest has dwindled (to the point of it being ridiculous) He'll still go see any movie by Spielberg. He finds actors and actresses a bit pretentious however.
• How does your character feel about the concept of fame and celebrity in general?
In Ethan's world, there is the "Company" (The CIA) and then there are the "Ghosts within the Company) AKA the IMF. They operate under
NOC Status which means that if caught or captured, Ethan will be executed and the US will disavow any knowledge of his actions or existence.
Personality wise, he'd like to be seen, but as far as his job's concerned-Celebrities make a far easier target-and he's not about to get his ass handed to him.
• Is your character more interested in entertainment figures or historically significant figures?
He's interested in the target. Personally he'd be more interested in entertainment figures, but that also covers Agency Targets. He doesn't have an opinion as far as historical figures go, knowing only what he needs to know.
4. If your character could achieve any one position of authority, what would she choose and why?
Every new recruit dreams of someday being Director, but Ethan's accepted that his life is going to be in the field, and teaching others how to survive with Noc Status. He's already achieved
Handler status, however he'd like to teach
Tradecraft (He figures that'd be a good career move if he ever settles down)
5. If your character could change the entire world in one tiny but pervasive way, what would it be?
He does on a regular basis. You just never hear about it. Strange incidents in foriegn countries involving explosions or thefts are usually the trademark signature of Ethan and his fellow covert agents with the IMF.
