20. Does your character prefer recreational activities that involve other people, or solo activities?
Derek has been a loner for a very long time, so for him, haring off into the wilds to hike, rock climb, surf or four-wheel is kinda second nature. It isn't that he doesn't want company--it's that he's not used to it. But he isn't bothered if people invite themselves along, and he doesn't mind going to parties and the like, although he tends to be one of the quiet ones.

21. Does your character ever get drunk or high? What is she like at those times?
Derek tends to avoid either state as a force of habit--he was never much into that 'scene' anyway, and he's seen way too many hunter groups get caught out by angry vampires and decimated because they were too wasted to fight back well.

• What are her drugs of choice? Are they legal or illegal? If illegal, how does she obtain them
and justify their use?
He has no drug of choice.

• Does she have an addictive personality?
Not really.

• Is she addicted to anything? If so, how does it affect her life?
Caffeine. He consumes somewhere around the equivalant of a pot of coffee a day. He got into using it because he tends to sleep as little as possible when working or is really involved in a project, and it helps to keep him awake once his own natural reserves are exhausted.

22. From your point of view, what is your character's worst flaw?
He's one opinionated little shit, and once he's decided to have his say, he's going to have it, come hell or high water. He stays in swinging long past the point where I as a RL person would have quit the scene and let shit be.

23. From your point of view, what is your character's greatest strength?
The same stubbornness that makes me cringe is the same will power that keeps him going and striving to succeed and never give up. The man has commitment down to a fine art.

24. From the point of view of someone close to your character, what is her worst flaw?
He can be a raging ass when he wants to be one. And he tends to be overly logical when fighting with other people. And he comes across as thinking he's always right.

25. A stray cat (or dog) shows up on your character's doorstep several days in a row and appears to
have no home. What does she do?
Feeds it. Takes it to a vet, finds a home for it.

26. From the point of view of someone close to your character, what is her greatest strength?
His loyalty, honesty and consistency.

27. Your character arrives home to find her door unlocked and slightly ajar, and she's sure she locked
it on her way out. What does she do?
He immediately goes into 'alert' mode. If he has a gun or knife on him, he will draw it and do a military grade security search. If he is weaponless, he will still do the search, but he will hold himself as a martial artist ready for action.

• Why is it unlocked?
Most likely a break-in by government, anti-government, or smart vampires.

28. From your character's point of view, what is her worst flaw?
He feels he isn't patient enough with people.

29. If someone told your character that she had a mental illness, how would she react?
He'd...consider it. If he thought he agreed, he'd go get it checked out. Chances are though that he wouldn't give any feedback about it to the person unless it was family or friends that had told him.

• What if a close friend suggested it?
He would take it somewhat seriously--enough to consider getting it checked out.

• What if a professional made an official diagnosis?
He'd get a second opinion, and if it matched up with the first one, would look into getting the problem 'fixed'.

• What if a close friend or relative of hers was given the diagnosis instead?
He would do anything he could to help them if they would allow it. Otherwise, he would lend support as he could.

30. Is your character an introvert or an extrovert?
He wavers between the two, but tends to be more of an introvert.

31. From your character's point of view, what is her greatest strength?
Honesty and loyalty.

1. A stranger knocks on your character's door in the middle of the night and asks for help. Does your
character open the door and let the stranger in?
He would go outside and lock the door behind him until he was sure of the person's intentions.

• What if the stranger is a tattooed, wiry man with blood on his face?
Same as above.

• What if the stranger is a weary-looking old lady?
Still the same as above: Vampires come in all shapes and sizes, and his paranoia in that respect extends to all possible scenarios.

• What if the stranger is a twelve-year-old child who keeps looking around as though someone
is following him?
Still the same reaction. Kid could be a decoy.

2. Does your character have any allergies or sensitivities? How do they affect his life?
Before he was altered, he had no significant allergies. After alteration, his body treats most drugs and alcohol as poisonous if taken in any significant amounts and will void it all violently by either vomit or sweat (or both if it's bad enough). He's regained some tolerance for caffeine, Corona beer, saki and tequila, but that's it.

He also is badly affected by wood and silver-caused wounds, just as the vampires on his world are. He keeps this a carefully guarded secret.
