THE DIAGNOSIS
The celebrated Psychoanalyst ran a pensive hand through his beard. This was the strangest case he had come across. He took up the slim diary again. This was all he had. Not even a name. It had to be returned tomorrow or its loss would be noticed. He was supposed to give his opinion solely on the basis of that diary.

He decided to note down some of the significant entries and bent to his task.

22 August 1934: The root cause of all problems lies with the Jews. We must find a permanent solution.
03 September 1934: In two years, the world will see Aryan supremacy proved once and for all at the Berlin Olympics.
17 September 1934: Heydrich has potential. Interestingly, he is blonde & blue-eyed, but I have proof of his Jewish ancestry. This can be used to keep him in line.
30 September 1934: Chamberlain is a fool. He signed the Munich Agreement today and sold Czechoslovakia. May God provide more such fools and Germany will rule the world.
23 December 1934: They think that the treaty of Versailles will stop us? Ha! 10 new battalions have been commissioned.
03 January 1935: The solution is obvious. Extermination. Nothing less than total extermination of Jewry from the face of the earth will do. Must look at methods and logistics. Very challenging.

The psychoanalyst stopped reading and wiped sweat from his brow. There was no need to read any more. He could guess who the ‘patient’ was and it sent shivers down his spine. He wondered if anybody suspected his own Jewish ancestry. Maybe it was time to leave the Fatherland.

He scribbled his diagnosis hastily:
“Herr Reichsleiter,
This is a strange way for me; however this diary is enough to draw certain inferences:
1. The patient is extremely intelligent and organised in his thinking. Though the entries appear random, he has the ability to keep coming back to critical issues.
2. He has grandiose delusions about World dominance.
3. He displays classic symptoms of Paranoia, as seen in his fear of Jews.

I would conclude that he has a condition known as Paranoid Delusional Disorder. This man could be of great harm to society in general as well as to himself. In layman terms, he has all the qualities of a mass-murderer, but can also be suicide prone.

He should not occupy any position of authority.

I Remain,

Your obedient servant,

Dr. xyz

06 January 1935

Sieg Heil!”

He left instructions with his secretary to hand over the sealed envelope only to Herr Bormann and hurried out of the clinic for the last time He didn’t even bother to glance back. There was no time to waste.
