Pondering Fate, Life, and Inevitability

Today I saw something horrible happen to a pure and innocent life.  I'm not sure what to think about it, what to do, what I could have done, or what it all means. I'm hoping that by writing it down and from your comments, that I can make some sense of it.

I went to my local (about a 20 minute drive) yarn store to pick up some more yarn and needles

I think I'd want to know more details, but have you considered that if this little baby grackle was otherwise injured before it was run over, it might not have survived?

Either way, I think I would have been upset to see that myself. I feel like that whenever I see squashed squirrels on the road. How hard is it for people to attempt to dodge these little guys?

I would have felt really sad - but I don't think you did anything wrong, especially if you honestly believed he wouldn't get run over before you parked and walked back over there. Also, if he wasn't trying to move, it's possible that he was already injured and wouldn't have survived anyway.

By the way, we have alot of mutual friends... I graduated UD in 03.
