Miss Mathews seemed rather distracted in class today. She was practicing formations above the forest and paused, mid-loop, simply hanging there, staring at the trees. What she was looking at, I had no idea. I was more concerned about the fact that she looked as if she was about to fall off her broom.
I must confess to being rather fond of the girl. She reminds me so much of me at that age, although slightly less boisterous perhaps. Her quidditch skills are coming on in leaps and bounds, though... she thrashed Mr Malfoy in the Ravenclaw vs. Slytherin match, and that was a wonderful sight to behold.
Malfoy is a spectacular player, loathe as I am to admit it. I recognise his style, though, I've seen it many times while teaching those from the richer familes. It's all down to expensive coaches and a lot of practising time - there's very little passion, or dare I say it, talent. Like most sports, of course, it can be taught, but there are some that need very little in the way of lessons - Potter, for instance, or Miss Mathews. Malfoy is good, yet not... naturally so. Yet somehow he manages to be far more confident than the other, better players. If that makes sense. Probably not.

Minerva's Hogmanay party was a jolly good evening. I maintained my usual graceful demeanour throughout, and I am fairly confident that I got through the party without offending a soul. And I'm certain I didn't drink too much whisky, and I definitely didn't throw up in any flowerbeds.
Someone, however, vomited all over Minerva's prize begonias. I expect it was Pomona. Never could hold her drink, that girl.
Could I remind my students to keep their focus during broomstick lessons? I understand that it isn't as boring academic a subject as, say, Potions, so you do not feel the need to concentrate as much, but a broken neck is far more serious than a spilled cauldron. Gazing off into the distance while hanging upside down is not the type of broom handling I like to see, Miss Mathews. Nor is floating midair with your mouth hanging open, gazing at my left ear, Miss Bulstrode.
Honestly, do you all think you're still on holidays? Pull it together, please. If anyone injures themselves in the next few weeks due to sloppy broom handling, I will not be impressed.
