While visiting, his dad once asked if he was happy and he thought about it.
He thought about waking up every morning with Kevin's arms wrapped protectively around his body and reveling in the feel until the alarm clock rings, signaling the beginning of a new day; kissing Kevin just before leaving for school and asking what he wants for dinner even though he sucks at cooking but he's trying; how no matter how many papers he has to write or how tired Kevin is from work that day, they always make time for watching football together every Friday night; the occasional fights they have over really stupid things and sometimes over really big things and how frustrated he would get and just wants to run away so badly and never come back but somehow Kevin would do or say something so incredibly sweet that he wonders why he ever wanted to leave at all; the way his heart would stop beating whenever they run into less than friendly aliens and Kevin would get hurt and he can't do anything about it and it terrifies him because he can't imagine living without Kevin by his side.
Then he looked at his dad straight in the eye and in a voice so soft Carl Tennyson could barely hear, he said, "Yeah, I'm happy."

More than getting hurt or even dying in a fight, Kevin is terrified that one day Ben would realize how stupid he had been for getting into a relationship with a fucked up half-alien monster. Especially one with a criminal record that would've gotten him thrown in prison for at least two life sentences if it hadn't been for his Plumber's badge. One day Ben would meet someone who can give him what he wants, what he needs, someone who actually deserves him and he'll finally see Kevin for what everyone else saw him as from day one: someone who isn't worth his time.

"I want to know," Ben said quietly, "What your mother looked like." He felt the older boy tense behind him and for a brief moment he was afraid that this was too soon. They'd only been dating for a few weeks, after all.
But then Kevin tightened his grip on Ben's waist, lightly brushing his lips against the back of his neck. "She was beautiful." he whispered softly. "Her hair was darker than night and her eyes were always shining as if she had a secret she was dying to tell you, and..."
"And...?" Ben turned on his side to face Kevin. The intense feeling in Kevin's eyes took his breath away.
"She had the prettiest smile in the world, just like you."
