llaras "Ah, good. You're moving." Simon returned to the infirmary to find Jayne still flat on his back but testing out his arms and legs.
"You should be able to get up and start walking around in a few minutes. You're going to have to keep the neck brace on until tomorrow, though."
Simon examined the instrument readouts and poked and prodded at Jayne while picking up his earlier speech from where he left off.
"Here's the thing, Jayne: I know you. I know that you take my words seriously now but as time passes and the reward for River and I gets bigger and bigger, you're going to be tempted to sell us out again."
Jayne tried to sit up and protest, but a firm hand on his shoulder held him down and Simon didn't let him get a word in.
"Stay still until I'm done checking on you. I wanted to make sure that you were reminded, several times a day, of what I've said today. I want you to remember when the offers come in, that you were in my hands and no harm came to you."
To the suspicious look on Jayne's face, Simon continued, somewhat conspiratorially, "Don't worry; I think you'll actually enjoy the reminder."
"Here," he said, offering Jayne a hand and helping him rise slowly. Assured that his patient was fine sitting on his own, Simon turned to leave again.
"I'll let you get up at your own pace. Just don't fiddle with the brace, leave it for me to take off tomorrow or you're likely to cause more damage."
Just outside the doorway, Simon paused then called back to a thoroughly confused Jayne, "It was named after a prince back on Earth That Was, you know."
