I seem to have a new friend. Or I'm forming a new friendship, maybe? Something like that. In any case, usually when I say, I have a new friend, I say it snidely and mean something negative like, this person is annoying and won't leave me alone. Yes, I know, that's horrible and reveals some pretty nasty things about me. That's not what I mean

I don't have any advice, but I wanted to say you aren't alone in this awkwardness. There are people who I care about deeply and still feel weird reaching out to. I'm not sure if things like LJ and other social media help maintain the illusion of "friending" or if they make it worse. I think this is why I cheat and focus on activities I can do with people.
But I still miss the deep late-nite-around-the-fire talk. I miss that connection that seemed a lot easier in my twenties when we were all young and throwing ourselves out there to see what stuck.
I'm sorry I don't know the answer, but it gives me hop you're trying to find one.
also "lifestyle hermit" might be one of my new favorite classifications. It's genius.

oh! oh and there was a thing on tumblr... I have to find it for you. Ostensibly it was about "the friend zone" issue (this has nothing to do with your making a new friend) but the comments went off in an amazing rendition of the raven and I was so pleased. It seemed like something you'd get a chuckle out of.
