I think that's a question that's on a lot of people's minds. I heard a preacher on t.v. the other day declaring it the "judgement of God." I've gotta say, though... I think that's hardly true. God was looking for a reson to spare Soddom and Gomorrah from the impending natural disaster -- he wasn't seeking to destroy them. Abraham even begged God to spare everyone (even the evil people) for the sake of the righteous. God said that for the sake of 10 righteous he would not destroy it (see Genesis 18:20-33). However, nobody payed any attention to the warnings aside from Abraham's family. A friend of mine started a church in New Orleans a few years ago - right in the heart of a high-crime, "sinful" part of town. Hundreds of people came to know Christ there. It seemed the message of Christ was just beginning to spread like wildfire when the hurricane wiped out the city. So I don't think that for a moment God looked at New Orleans and the gulf coast and cast judgement on these people. If that were the case, then the rest of the ( ... )

What is Status? Is that like CCM or something?

Aaron and I heard a similar sermon at the Baptist church we attended on Sunday, though we aren't Baptist.
The preacher*sp talked about the different things that occur when major natural disasters happen. making people realize they need GOd, making us realize we need each other, making us recognize God's sovereignty. The thing that I did agree with that the preacher said is that when we start to try and understand Gods motives we become presumptuous. Only God understands why He does the things He does.

But he (the preacher) also followed that with saying something about how some guy (Pat Robertson) said that Florida got hit by all the hurricanes last years because Orlando was waving the Gay Pride flags. Which therefore meant we were waving the flags in Gods face. Pat RObertson also said that the President of Vennizula should be killed. :-/

I have mixed opinions on it all.
