It's astonishing how much space your stuff takes up when you get everything out of the drawers and cupboards and things. You can never have enough boxes, and if you think you've got enough, you'll still need more.
The same goes for time. If you allow three days to pack, it'll probably take six.
Make sure you write labels on the outside of your boxes so you know what's in them! Especially if people are helping you move, write 'kitchen' or 'bedroom' or whatever on the appropriate boxes.
Pack last the things you'll need first. In fact, pack an overnight bag as if you were going to stay at a hotel/with friends; then you can live out of that until you unpack everything else.
Take the opportunity to throw things away if you've never used/worn them for years. Alternatively, don't be surprised if five years later, you still haven't unpacked some of your boxes. :-)
Make sure you can physically lift the box before you seal it up; if you can't, take some things out of it...
told hey you know that 7.5% raise we gave you a couple weeks ago? Oops, we screwed up. To which I began to panic, until they said "We're not paying you ENOUGH".
How many people today can say that! Congratulations.
