I know that this is old, but I thought I would post it because of all of the recent interest / self-loathing relating to all of our bookishness. Bold the ones you've read.

I was quite embarassed when I realized I could count the number I've read on one hand. When I realized that the majority of those fingers were the result of class reading lists rather than my own free will, I was just sad. When I realized how few fingers had been added since high school, I was bordeline despondent.

Thank goodness that now I can find some solace in the fact that literary expectations are generally lower for engineers.

Also, since the list only includes novels written in Engilsh in the 20th Century, a better approach may be to cry out "literary fads!" and "eurocentric!" and run away.
