I heard an NPR story about how well Gabby Giffords is recovering from her head wound. She can open her eyes on her own! For ten minutes at a stretch! The story made me cry. What is left of her now? She can't be the same woman she was before the shooting. Human consciousness is so fragile. We shift, change, grow all the time. We don't think
