Several years ago, I attended the Surrey International Writers’ Conference (SiWC), which I’d recommend for anyone who is on the verge of stepping into the publishing world. While there, I purchased the newest book by one of my husband’s favourite authors and had the author sign it for him

Not fighting it, so much as laughing at myself. But perhaps petting one's own book, raised lettering or not, is quite normal. :-)
