Once upon a time, somewhere if not in this town, Spike had been one of the most wicked, tricky bastards to walk God’s green earth. He’d uncovered the Judge, got duLac deciphered and dug up a massive, fuck-off treasure trove which included the Gem of Amara.

As the initial mutiny died on the faces before him, his audience waiting for their cue, Spike remembered how and he remembered hard.

Yes! Brilliant! I know you've said you see this as Buffy's story but tbh I think the growth is equal on both sides. They force each other to find the best version of themselves.

:D Well, maybe it is kind of Spike's story too, especially now he has a couple more moments added in... Yay!! I'm so glad you like him here. I always wonder where Spike thinks his shouting foreman self has gone when he's getting weepy and introverted in S7 - it doesn't seem to me that he could have forgotten it all entirely.

And hahaaa! I am evil. Though maybe not as evil as the original plan that was to have an entire new long chunk of the fic which was about Spike and non-touchy Buffy reconciling in Angel S5. It would have been a bit like Portal in some sort of narrative gotcha, which I say because I still like the idea, but I don't think it would have made all that much sense in the end... By the end of the next two sections, enough was enough!

Well, I got this far - enough to say I love this fic to pieces. I adore the way you write them both. Also, the description of the escape on the bus was really good - very exciting.

ETA: I just looked ahead and saw that there are only two more parts, so I am going to finish them this evening.
