"Yours was the kiss that counted
The one that mattered
My life before me undone
This would be the kiss that counted
The one that shattered my defenses
Bringing me emotion
And devotion”
~ Catie Curtis

He was frustrated, and terribly confused. He also seemed a bit frightened, which I never would have noticed before. I knew he felt that way, I could see it written into the hidden expression of his face. Yet despite his emotions, I was filled with nothing but joy for seeing him! It was the first time I had seen him since my own awakening. I had thought that walking out under that sky and seeing all the corridors and passageways weaving through the heavens was the most amazing sight I had seen during this life. The sight was completely new and yet entirely familiar. I was wrong. Seeing Jaisen for the first time since my awakening filled me with all the same joyous emotions. He was entirely familiar to me and I understood him with our years of friendship. There was still much to learn from him and I wanted to sit down and have him fill me in on everything he had been through lately so that I could take note of how such events had changed him. Moreover, I wanted him to know everything I knew that was holding us close together, everything we shared.

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath despite the smile that still played across my face. I couldn’t tell him these things. I would be able to share all these things with him again in due time, and by then I would know more as well. The only thing that kept me from being filled in on all his new experiences was what lay between us from this single life. It seemed so trivial now, but I would have to play along.

She’d thrown her arms around me in a tight hug when I first approached her. That alone had caught me off guard. When she pulled away she’d put her palms against my cheeks and without a moments hesitation had given me the most love filled kiss I had ever experienced. She had only ever kissed me on the cheek before.

I had expected her to be angry with me. We never seemed to leave each other’s company on a good note. At the most I had expected her to be civil towards me, nothing like this. She still held my face in her hands and was looking at me, though it felt like she was looking into me, with sparkling blue eyes that suddenly contained a great depth I had never before seen there. It was familiar to me in a foggy sense, but my more conscious self was a bit taken aback by it. She broke the hold her eyes held over me when she closed them and took a deep breath. Her beautiful smile still played across her lips. She seemed to nod to herself before she opened her eyes and gazed at me again. She brushed my cheek with her thumb before letting her hands fall from my cheeks. Then, without saying a word, she turned around and walked away.

She left me standing in the middle of the park completely baffled and not knowing what to say or how to react. All I knew was that it felt like I had been undone somehow. As though some wall within me had been shattered with a kiss. Emotions that I had always suppressed coursed through me as though a damn had broken. And I was left standing there not knowing where to go or  what to do.
