I'll be attending the law school this fall, and moving to CT this summer. Any recommendations on where to look or where to avoid in terms of towns/apartments? I will have a car to get around. Thanks!

depends on what type of living arrangement you are looking for. If you are looking to live with people, I would start looking now because people are posting up roommate wanted ads now. Also, depending on what your tolerance is like, there are a variety of different apartments around here. For instance, in Wallingford, there are tons of apartments for cheap BUT they tend to be run down. In Hamden, there are not too many places left. Also, the nicer apartments tend to be a bit more costly.

thanks for the quick response! I'm *hoping* to be able to afford a single, but i'm not sure that's possible. I suppose i should have mentioned that after safety (and money) having a quiet place to sleep is really important. I don't care how loud it is during the day but from at least 12 to around 7 it better be quiet! (i've had big problems in the past).

My best advice would be live somewhere that doesnt allow under grad kids - i know a few places are doing that now b/c the underclass kids party too much and are too rowdy

Do you know any names of specific apartment complexes that don't allow undergrads? I'll be going up to CT in a month or so to scope places out. Thanks!

Avalon Walk...its in Hamden. They just started not allowing undergrads, im actually moving there just for that reason. its really nice. i know other places outside of hamden are more "older" people...aka no undergrads, you just have to call around and ask!!! hope thats somewhat helpful!

As for towns, I think it depends on your preferences... Hamden is obviously close, but the places here tend to jack up the prices. Other surrounding towns are cheaper, but factoring in gas to get to school with prices so high... who knows.

don't just stick to hamden. look in a 20 minute-by-car radius. there are a ton of colleges in southern CT and a lot of people looking for roommates. as for singles, i don't know, but i'm sure you can find something. west haven is about 15-20 minutes away, and it tends to not be a desireable location because it's kind of ugly. i know a few people who have apartments there though, and they're safe and clean and quiet, so maybe look around there.

good luck, and update the community about how you like the law school! (i'm thinking of going to law school myself.)
