Walking to work

It has been common during my morning walks in recent weeks for me to see a police presence between the river and my work. For a while at the beginning of the year it was due to an exercise in making sure that cyclists were following traffic signals at one particular junction, but recently there has been no obvious purpose, especially on the ( Read more... )

Personally I suffer from rather sad middle-class guilt - i.e. as soon as I see a policeman I wonder what I might have done wrong... I think it is only those who feel vulnerable *and* pro-police who feel comforted by their presence - not very many people these days...

Did you consider finding out who the Incident Officer was and contacting them to ask? They might not have known it existed - that could be fixed for next time (although why anyone would want to blow up where you work - the mind boggles).

I don't think that there was ever an attack, but some decades ago they were worried that they might be a target for the IRA. These days (although I agree it's unlikely), if it did happen, I would think that it was a disgruntled individual - in my time there has been a rather loud protest outside, though I don't think there was any violence on that occasion.
