Alright so... it's the season for Deathly Hallows rants, and while I'm probably a bit late and maybe the time has passed... I don't know, I just finished it the other day and feel like participating. *SHRUG*
So here you have my random observations.
*I REALLY enjoyed the insane frenzy of "QUICK CRAM EVERY CHARACTER EVER INTO THE FINAL BOSSFIGHT". It felt right to me. X3
*Tremendous love for far-back-reaching references. 'Are you a wizard or not!?' Baha.
*The people she killed off... I... Still stunned. Lupin and Tonks hurt me the most. Fred /shocked/ me the most, I still can't hardly believe it. Dobby and Hedwig were just cruel.
Moody? I /love/ the guy, but really, him I was not surprised at. The man wore a Coat and was pretty much a Dark-Hunter. He almost /had/ to get it. *sigh* Hunters.
*I really thought that weird random albino peacock was going to be of some importance. I was predicting some kind of giant 'AH-HA!' moment. Way to throw out red herrings there. XD
*Voldemort making a Horcrux out of Ravenclaw's diadem I can accept. But he hid the locket so well, and the cup in Gringotts, the ring in such a random place, the snake kept safe by his side and its own strength... and he just chucked the crown into the Room-O-Junk? XD Wtheck? I did not think 'hidden in plain sight' was his style. *snork*
*That fiendfyre is going to look great in the movie. It's like the ford right before Rivendell in FOTR, but backwards. X3
*Neville got to be AWESOME. I love it! Hopeless rebel causes! Enough said! n___n
*I really liked the students reactions in the Great Hall at the very beginning of chapter 31, when they were given the option to evacuate. One student from each table basically speaks up in turn;
Slytherin: I say we give them what they want and all not die! I feel not-dying to be the best option here! >_>
Ravenclaw: Yeah, okay. Battle and danger. Right. Hey, what about all our stuff?
Hufflepuff: I SAY WE STAY AND FIGHT !!1!
Gryffindor: *completely insane grins that do not require verbal comment* X3
*Even though the middle was very slow, I enjoyed it anyway. That's when you know you're writing well- you can fill a couple hundred pages with 'and then they teleported to a place with trees, and slept there, and then they teleported to a place with trees and /raining/', and people will still finish your book in a day.
*That HORRIBLE Umbrage woman! GYYAAAHHH. ~___~ I never felt like she got what she deserved soundly enough in OotP, and now she came back and she's WORSE, and she STILL never got it! *SCREAMS*
*Geez, Snape's life pretty much uniformly sucked for him. Lots. o__o;;
I think Kari said it best. I was telling her that I kept expecting some small one or five percent of Slyth to say 'hey, we think the good guys have a shot, we'll throw down with them' in some kind of redemptive way.
Her answer- "Snape you mean?"
Oh yeah. Right. Ouch.
*I liked the epilogue very much and completely do not understand why anybody is upset over it. *shrug* Stories that drag their characters through every horrible thing possible and then refuse them a decently tidy and pleasant ending really tick me off, so I was satisfied.
*Dang. I wanted to see Hufflepuff common room. Ahwell. That one paragraph of Ravenclaw's 'password' system made the entire house instantly and retroactively awesome, in my opinion.
*Is it just me or is the thought of a hundred or so house elves swarming out to hack at people's legs with meat cleavers a REALLY disturbing mental image?
*Looking back through, I now see that Luna's final line is "Ooh, look, a Blibbering Humdinger!" I find this entirely fitting. <3.
So that is my rather randomly selected opinion. I'm sure I've forgotten things I wanted to mention, and I would like to say that I'll make another post for those items later, but... we all know how often I post. >_>;
Love for HP. <3.
