For Kate. (November 10th)

He didn't come home that night.

When he slipped into their hut in the early hours of the morning, he was showered and in clean clothes he'd found in the box, so at least he could say it didn't look like a walk of shame. It took a minute for her to realize what was even happening. Someone was knocking, that came to her fairly quickly, and that someone was Marshall. But it felt early and usually Marshall knew better than to come knocking on her door before ten or eleven, unless she had class, which was getting sort of hard to hide.

"No," she grumbled, but she sat up anyway, because if he was coming to talk to her this early, it was probably something at least a little bit serious. As soon as that thought came to her, Kate frowned. If he was coming to talk to her this early, maybe someone had disappeared.

"I'm good," she answered. "You can come in."

She was sleep mussed and bleary eyed and when Marshall stepped into the room, he bit back a smile, sitting down on the end of her bed and asking, "Is this going to be one of those conversations where I realize you're still asleep halfway through?"

"Totally awake, totally listening," Kate answered as she pushed her hair off her face and looked at Marshall. She was attempting to look like she was awake, though probably still failing just a little bit, but if he wanted to talk, she would listen.

Mostly. If it got totally boring, she might try to nap with her eyes open.

"What up, brother of mine? Did someone else disappear?" She was sort of numb to it now, with Britta gone, but she hadn't talked about it much and wasn't going to start now.

"What? No. Nobody disappeared," Marshall said. It hadn't even occurred to him that she might jump to that, since he was usually careful about not waking her up, but he'd been kind of... preoccupied.

"I just... I think I've got a boyfriend. I mean, I know I do," he admitted, drawing one leg up onto the bed so he could face her. "I kind of asked Maxxie to be my boyfriend, last night."
