Today is Juneteenth, which commemorates the end of slavery. It's a state holiday in Texas. It took two years after the declaration for the news to reach Texas on June 19, 1865. I'm not sure if Texas was the last state to hear, but it was the first to declare it a holiday and make a celebration of it. I don't have anything profound to say, but ( Read more... )
