yes, it is normal - there is a HUGE psychological connection to smoking

you basically used smoking to calm yourself (even if you didn't think about it)

if you can, when you feel your temper about to explode go for a quick walk, go outside and do some jumping jacks, take 10 deep breaths - it can really help (I found exercise to help tremendously with this)

the rage does go away, but it can take a while

just remember, you can do this

I think there's some information on the American Psychological Association website about quitting smoking. Seem to remember it said something about things getting worse like a month after quitting. Maybe you can practise mindful breathing.

Yes, it is very normal. Everyone who quits goes through the anger symptoms. The key for me was, once I knew what was causing the problem, I was able to recognize it for what it was, and I didn't get as angry. I said to myself "It's just the addiction, stay calm." Might sound a bit silly, but it worked. When you feel the anger. STOP. Don't say anything. Drink a tall glass of water, take some deep breaths, leave the room if you are about to yell at someone. I often found it helped to go outside and get some fresh air, even if only for a moment. The nicotine is out of your system, this is the mental part of the addiction. Try not to worry, it doesn't last forever. I was fine after a couple of months. I've been quit for just over a year. YOU CAN DO IT!
