It's interesting how much that list is applicable to my experience, despite being in such a different field. Although maybe musicology and graphic design are more closely related than musicology and history, so perhaps it makes sense. I'm still noticing parallels between my education (which almost never has papers or exams) and other higher degrees, despite those formal differences.
Yeah, I could relate to most of it too. The part about the scary professor writing a song you liked as a child...I compared that to what it would have been like to take a class with Ruth Bloch at UCLA. If she was scary, it would have been so tragic...she wrote one of my favorite history books ever. The rest of it pretty much made sense for me, even though he's a musicology student. Grad school is grad school....
I already suspect I can see a lot of that being true for me too. I wasn't planning to stop with a BA in any case! It's just a shame that, doing joint honours, I get less chance to focus on my own thing...
The Head of History here is a teddy bear with an afro who presents the occasional TV series, such as on Guy Falkes last year.

I don't have time for a terrible cold right now.
But I have one anyway.

Then I realized I don't have broken bones and I'm not vomitting (knock on wood) so I have it pretty good compared to other linguists...
::sigh::
