Loneliness should not be allowed in elementary school. How can anybody be ready for social rejection at such an early age? How, for that matter, can anybody be able to reject a peer to that extreme extent? What if there was someone in those young years who regarded you with disdain, and now turns out to be a friend? I understand what you mean--throughout high school, I was still nervous and shy around the people who had been in the GT program at elementary school, even though by that time I was pretty much at their level and there was no need to feel inferior. Our childhoods stay with us very persistently.

I wish I could relate more...I was always "the smart kid" in my grade through all of elementary school, so I had many friends (even though they were very quick to drop me when middle school came around and I started being actually busy with work).

You are much more mature than so many other people your age.
