Influence the curriculum

You have a chance to throw your two cents into my classroom. Should I have my kids learn "Lady Be Good" or "Pennies From Heaven? I feel like they both cross the bridge from early jazz to swing. Perhaps I'm wrong.

Lady Be Good! The Lester Young recording cements its superiority and importance.

I think you're right. Either song would be an excellent choice. Perhaps you could do both songs and then talk about the difference between binary song form and songs with bridges. My $0.02.

Both swing, but go ahead. Explain the lyrics. Then choose Pennies. How about.. Is you is or is you ain't my baby. That's a good one. Leave out the verse about the knife fight.
