brbrbrbr OMORI SPOILERS UNDER CUT I made an askblog. or something.
Since it took me a while to make this post, that means there's more than two images to look at! And I get to talk about the aftermath of posting them.
So if you've read my previous Omori posts, you'll know that I've been developing my post-ending AU ever since I finished the game! I've been really liking a lot of the ideas in it, but it's a little hard to commit to art form because most of them are more of scattered setting details than actual dialogue. Writing a fanfiction is really daunting when you don't know how all of the plot threads you thought of connect together, I imagine it would feel more like rambling than anything? And comics are really difficult. They take a lot of constant dedication, and I felt like I would get lost somewhere throughout it.
That's where the Tumblr-famous Askblog format comes in!
If you're not familiar (though I imagine everyone reading this post would be), on Tumblr you can send people small posts to their mailbox, which they can attach a response to, and then post to their blog. The "askblog" is a type or blog where people send asks, then someone will reply with an in-character response, like a big roleplay with tons of strangers!
i've done a couple askblogs in the past. Two of them were experimental and I shut down pretty quickly (one of them because I thought it was getting too popular), and the other was less of a pre-planned story and more like a huge collaborative roleplay with many other askblogs that I drew art to. That one was really successful, mostly in terms of teaching me how to run them and draw them efficiently.
I thought and ask blog would be really good for my Omori ideas, because while I do have a lot of overarching story in mind, my main issue is figuring out how to connect them together and motivation. If people send asks, that fixes both problems! AND bonuses of letting me deliver exposition at the same time!!!
But if I was really going to commit to making it and ask blog, then I REALLY had to commit. I needed me a pinned post! And CHAPTER ART!
Within the game, sunny is associated with White Tulips. They carry a lot of significance and symbolism, so I thought I could use them to represent Sunny for every chapter! Whenever there's a new chapter, I'll redraw the image so that the tulip represents how he feels more. Currently, it's yellowed around the leaf edges, but is getting plenty of sunlight and is still standing. The plant is starting to heal, like Sunny is!
At the time I drew this picture, I was getting really frustrated with the drawing. I feel like I couldn't make anything look right, and this really restored my confidence. Drawing a plant instead of a human, and letting myself spend all my time coloring it (something that comes naturally to me) helped me calm down.
The only problem was... This was supposed to be chapter art, and I didn't want to ruin this image by slapping some shoddy text on it! So, I went for a different solution instead.
If you've been following this live journal for longer than I've been doing Omori posts, you'll know that I spend a lot of the time while my hand was injured making pixel art! And I got pretty good at it I think... Omori is a game made out of pixels, so having a card that was pixelized wouldn't stick out that weird! I didn't have a lot of ideas for this drawing, I just made it in the aspect ratio I thought would work.
There's the top side, which represents White Space obviously, and the bottom side that is more naturally colored with sunlight and a normally colored tulip. It's the dichotomy between the dream world and the real world. The dream world isn't really threatening (at least right now), and it's mostly minding it's business. The real world is nice and pretty! Also not threatening.
Again, I plan to redraw the tulip and the chapter are every single chapter, so that means I'll have ample opportunity to stuff them with as much symbolism as ispossible. WHICH IS A LOT, THIS IS OMORI
The profile picture was something I found while looking through the game assets. I wanted it to be the white tulip sprite from the game, but then I had the thought that they probably exist in the real world as well and in that case I wanted to use that sprite. I don't exactly know where they show up in the game, but I was able to find a real world tulip on
Omori's Spriters Resource page (something that is permanently bookmarked on my browsers taskbar). This too will change, though probably not as much or as often.
And yet... Even with my page fully decorated, there was still one daunting task left!
THE FIRST POST 🌩🌩🌩
ESTABLISHING SHOTS
Imitating Omori's intro here. The black construction paper are 2 different pictures from the game, but I had to manually remove the text myself because I couldn't find clean versions of those. Then I just used my own handwriting bc omocat didn't use a font.
There's a paper texture over the white space images, again bc copying Omori and Omori's linework was done traditionally then scanned. I decided it looked like crap and stopped using it later on but it'll persist for a few more posts.
White Space is orginized how it was in the game (which is the same as Mari's picnics) but now there's a mailbox!
Mewo and the mailbox traded places bc originally I wasn't sure if I wanted it or not, then I decided I did so moved Mewo to wear Basil would sit in a picnic.
POST 2
MAILBOX IN ACTION
Shot of him looking inside of it was fun. Second one has actual comic formatting, can you believe it.
I debated adding the mailbox because I liked the visuals of it, cononizing the "sending asks as letters" and how I could continue referencing the black paper effect, but I also didn't want to have it so he could just choose not to read the letters (he'd do that) so wanted them to play in his head instead. I MADE IT WORK
Morny sent the first ask! Tidal sent one first something like hi how are you idk something like that, but I had accidentally deleted itttttt so I wanted Morny to send something else. She asked what to send and I said "idk whatever" and she sent in a Deltarune reference. Win
I just quickly screenshot the ask for this post. Whenever I crosspost it to sites like DeviantArt or whatever the fuck I want the asks to be dark to contrast with White Space and something something reference to later image.
SUNNY HAS VOICES IN HIS HEAD AGAIN he's estatic about that.

First asks from people I don't know! Also first colored picture here with OMORI FLASHBACK. I draw that branch coral more than you'd expect. I do like the composision that...
These comics are in an experimental artstyle for me. I've always wanted to be good at formatting comics and that's less about coloring and rendering and more about making things not boring, which is hard to do when it's just a guy talking to himself in a room. Have to add flashbacks and make the pictures flow with dialogue hhhhhh
The lightbulb is all gone! Sunny destroyed it in the game events. Lightbulb = idea, black lightbulb = repression of an idea. Sunny is able to live as Omori in White Space because he's able to disassociate from reality enough that he can forget himself and become nothing, detaching himself completely. When he faces the truth and beats Omori, he leaves White Space seemingly for good!
SO IT IS A VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION. WHY IS HE BACK IF EVERYTHING IS GOOD NOW?
You have to think about every little detail before casually just making an Omori comic.
Asker clearly meant "doing" not "going" so I respected them. I stop respecting askers pretty soon, though.
Short ones are good for pacing, and also faster so I have something to do inbetween long comics.
THIS ONE IS FUNNY TO ME I'm the audience that matters. Basically he's doing crazy motion bc he thinks he's crazy for having voices in his head and Mari would think he is crazy and this is a crazy thing to ask.
This one I draw a direct paralel between White Space and the picnics! I never want to spend too much time on these and it's very experimental, so I like whenever weird shots I try to do work out. All the dreamworld friends are blurry and don't have eyes because it's not important/they're faint memories. This one has to do with my angstttt about Dreamworld Basil having been through so much torment and the guilt Sunny has about the pain he caused dreamworld/realwould Basil for years. Omori has too many metaphors.
Drawing the many cat pictures was fun! alll cute.
Everyone kept making jokes about this one SUNNY'S MOM IS A FURRY? SUNNY'S MOM IS A FURRY AND SAYS HEWWOS?????? but I know they're jokes YOU ALL KNOW WHAT I MEANT, ASKER LITERALLY SAID "MY CHILD"
Also letters showing up as real paper again, fun
this one took me a very long time to make and made the blog do a 6 day hiatus because it took a long time to figure out and draw. I'M SURE YOU CAN SEE WHY.
The posing between posts stays pretty consistant. He's on the floor, then he's sitting, then he's standing, then he's leaning on the mailbox.
Phantasmalva helped me with the posing on the second picture because I was STRUGGLING.
I of course had to ruin their masterful anatomy to make it worse because otherwise it wouldn't fit with the first picture.
Sunny says "the strangers" when refering to the audience, because his mind has always had people in it who look like shadows with no faces. I worry people might get confused and think for some reason he's talking about Shadow Basil because the fandom never played the game more than once or analyzed any of the text so thinks "Stranger" is a proper name and that every NPC named Stranger is the same character,
when they definitely aren't. I decided to not dumb my comic down though so if some people get lost it's their own fault.
The two shots with Omori with the strangers looking at him then cutting to Sunny was really fun! I'm glad I decided to do it this way, because I drew sketches of many different shots for that part. This was definitely the way to go. LOOKS VERY COOL.
Then it cuts to the parts about his past friends! He mostly remembers them from when he last saw them, at his old town, but it's blurry and not current. The window boxes were going to be like... AOL emails... but I couldn't find a good enough picture of those so I just made it normal Windows 95 boxes. there's no background but they change to different clothes bc it's more modern!
Kel has the most boxes, because Sunny talks to him the most, Hero has some, and Aubrey has none becaause he hasn't spoken to her.
"We don't need to talk about Basil" became a running joke on my discord where I shared early scripts that I had to include it... He could've been clearer, sure, but we don't need to talk about Basil! Nothing to say here, really. No one will be wondering about Basil after this whatsoever.
Ok that's 10 posts covered and I have a really bad cold but LOOK. AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS I FINALLY GAVE YOU AN LJ UPDATE. BE HAPPY YAAAAAAAAAY. I'll cover more of these as I have the energy to.
