Just got back from seeing the Star Trek movie.

When I first heard that time travel was a key element in the plot, I just kinda face-palmed. Seriously, is this a running gag, or something? How much of the entire fucking canon revolves around time travel, now? It's like they can't do anything else anymore. C'mon guys! Listen to your own goddamn intro! Space is the final frontier, not time. Space is a big place. Like, really big. Surely there's other shit they could do besides go back in time. Again. Well, actually, it was the Romulans who went back in time, but still!

Okay. Having said that, I actually did like the movie. I thought the new cast did a pretty good job with the characters. I also liked how they showed that Uhura was more than just a glorified telephone operator--it didn't play a huge part in the movie, but it was nice to see. The only other thing that made me WTF? was...Uhura and Spock?! Where the hell did that come from? I mean, yeah, I get that Sarak married Amanda so it kinda runs in the family, but Spock's whole thing was about proving that he was as Vulcan as the best of them despite his human heritage. Having him actually get involved with anyone just kinda screws around with his whole character.

On the other hand, though...it kinda ticked off Kirk, who'd been hitting on Uhura for most of the movie--and that was pretty damn hilarious.
