I CAN SEE YOU

I got a wireless picture frame for Christmas, as part of my ultimate plan to have Project Wonderful's status be displayed on the wall. But while I'm scripting that up, I've set it up so that everything on Flickr tagged "qwantzparty" gets shown in my living room. I know they're the same pictures that I can see online, but there's something pretty ( Read more... )

I predict that you're going to get a lot of groupies taking pictures of themselves flashing you. I hope you (or more importantly, your girl) like naked boobs.

That's the first use I've seen for a electronic picture frame that actually makes me want one.

How does scripting for it work? Do you send it updated images, or point it at an automatically-updated image on a server, or something else?

What it does is use the fact that Flickr will give you an RSS feed for any tag search, and then it uses that to give you updating images! So that's awesome. And you can use any RSS feed in a particular "media RSS" format, which I've never heard of before but I believe means "RSS and all you publish is a JPG file".

The frame itself is pretty cool but only reads jpg and has a few other weird limitations, so the future isn't here yet, but I'm convinced it could be just a firmware upgrade away.

You could always just run the picture through an online converter, then the future is just a PHP script away. :)
