Hindsight being 20/20, he shouldn't have left it go on so long...you know men..."it's just a cold"... now it's complicated. And yes, serious. He should have turned the corner by now.

This is what sold me on getting the flu shot every year and the pneumonia shot too (that's like every ten years, they think). I got deathly, deathly ill in 1994 and it lasted over six months. I can't do that anymore.

Poor dude. scratchy sheets, lumpy plastic bed and shitty food. and no computer. cripes. I'll bet he's ready to escape....
