"We spoke of religion, and how much of it is just a custom preserving practical codes of health, morality and justice that no longer necessary for group survival (like eating animals with cloven hooves). i think humans have made religion into something many people hate... i also think that when certain people hate God it is the people who worship a God they really hate...
humans are imperfect and want to be perfect...so some of them try to reach perfection in many different ways...but to stay on the topic of religion, people want to be like Jesus or whatever they are worshipping and be perfect so then they persecute people that dont want to anything to do with religion...or people that arent so perfect.
On my opinion i also think religion can deny a lot of experiences and maybe it is for the better... but like you Alisha i want to feel everything i possibly can in life... even if it is pure pain and suffering..
i hope this makes sense to you... i am sorry i couldnt give you a good mind fuck, as you call it... LOL

I find that very interesting and yet so very wrong at the same time. I think because you not believing in God your views about religion has slowly deteriotated if not already. I think people like you make jokes about God and Nailing him to whatever he was nailed to. I see you finding it funny in a sick morbid way. Society today blameS religion for everything: For their suffering, for the lost of lives. I dont care what you think about God, because I myself think that he doesnt exist. But i feel very strongly when it comes to people talking soME mad crap about the (DUDE)...

I would never insult god or a specific religious figure, i hold too much respect for that sort of mockery. And i do not recall at all implying that religion itself was bad, but rather that people use it as an excuse, or reason, to do horrible things. and if you do not agree i do believe you should freshen up on her history because the lack of knowledge shown from that small statement is appalling.

early Salem; the Witch House (1642)where witch trial hearings were held. A masacre of wemon and a even men because of religion.

Wars of Religion 1562-98, series of civil wars in France, also known as the Huguenot Wars. A Protestant dominant war, early civil rights for a right to warship. Transformed into a war of power.

Hussite Wars, series of conflicts in the 15th cent., caused by the rise of the Hussites in Bohemia and Moravia. It was a religious struggle between Hussites and the Roman Catholic Church, a national struggle between Czechs and Germans, and a social struggle between the landed and peasant classes.

Also i think it may be wise for you to check out Lebanese history, native american, German, roman, and pretty much the entire history of any country that has ever been in existance. Religion has shaped this world, to deny that it hasn't had any affect on even the most sheltered of humans is a bold statement. Religion, my friend may not be to blame, but it is not innocent either. We all worship something in this world, whether that is ourselves(satanism), a cow (Hinduism), God (Christianity, Judism, Cathlicism,)Religion is our moral support and more times then can be counted people take advantage of that fact. Jokes my friend are not being made about Jesus's crusifiction, but rather the entirity of our ignorance and willingness to follow anything that gives us any hope. No matter if that is obvious false hope, we just want something to believe in.

I agree with you in the fact that i do need to freashen up on my history, but i also agree with you when you stated that people use religion as an excuse to do horrible things. But when it comes to War it's not totally based on Religion if that. Countries do fight to keep their Faith, but more importantly fight to keep their Country or Freedom. I will look up those Wars of Religion and see what you are talking about. But we are in a new decade now, Wars today have nothing to do with religion. If you think so please tell me one War that involved religion before the year 1920. No Civil War, No World War or 2 No Vietnam War etc... There aren't any.

Worshiping Something anonymous May 12 2004, 22:23:22 UTC
Men today have to worship something its in there natural to. If not they will go insane, weather it be Christian, Catholic, or worshiping the universal or the big one these days being a Satanist. Then so be it, but you will always find yourself worshiping something.

hmm, insanity i doubt is the offect of someone not believing in anything. But i will agree it is something close to that. But i believe that has more to do with our own insecurities and fears then with actual religion. But i do agree, just not in entirity.

I am not a big fan of organized religion at all, I can tell you that. And I do agree with the purpose that it serves in the sense that it is to preserve morality and such. However, I do not find that following any bible or written text of religion is valid, for my taste anyway. And I view all bibles, or religious texts simply as opinions or philosophies for that. I think every human has some kind of dependency in them, and they feel the need to believe in something, this is why religion was created and still exists.

interesting... i enjoyed reading your opinion... i agree with why you say religion was created and still exists. most people need something to live for, believe in... and depending on the person it can/is many different things...
