Time to weigh in on Dollhouse.

I've given it about seven episodes, but I think enough is enough. I liked the premise when I first heard it. Science fiction, but capable of adapting to basically any story Joss wants to tell. Episodic, but with a continuous plot over top of it (just like Cowboy Bebop and That Other Space Western). It could have been pretty great ( Read more... )

Wow, I'm surprised that you don't like it. The only episode I thought was a little boring so far was the religious cult one. But, these last two and the safe one were really good TV. (IMHO) Especially in this last one, it was just a neat idea seeing the controllers lose control over the whole situation and being completely dependent on the dolls to do their jobs. Also, I can't wait to see how the cat and mouse game is played out between the dollhouse and the investigator. Of course, I don't think that it's leading to anything deeper. But, it's a nice semi-suspenseful show that is getting more complicated as the plot goes on. Also, I like how Joss is mitigating the fact that what the dollhouse is doing is pure exploitation of human beings. It could be very easy to forget that in a series like this. Sorry that you don't like it!

I liked the first few episodes (including the cult one) but lately it seems like they're veering away from the "identity of the week" stories, which I feel they should continue to do from time to time. I enjoyed "the" episode, "Man on the Street," but last week's didn't really grab me. I felt there was too much exposition and not enough - well, I don't know what it was lacking, but it was definitely lacking something. (And the bizarre behavior of everyone when they were infected - it was very unfunny.) Joe, you should give it one more chance, because this Friday's episode looks like it will be excellent (Echo, Sierra, and Victor become aware and try to escape.) I do agree though that it's missing something. It doesn't grab me immediately the way that Buffy, Angel, and Firefly did.

Nah, I'm done with it for now. If the show manages to kick things up a few notches in future episodes and everyone starts singing its praises, I'll be able to catch up on Hulu. As of now I don't think it's worth my time. Also, I don't think Eliza Dushku is skilled enough to portray the perfect method actress that Echo is supposed to be.

PS - Todd, I think that by 'mitigating' you mean 'not mitigating'. Otherwise I don't see what you're talking about, since the show beats you over the head with the fact that the dollhouse is human slavery every single episode.
