so across the universe....
all i have to say, is....
Besides the fact that I guess I must be insanely easy to please or something, I don't get all the hate/critiques surrounding this movie or its plot or acting. I was blown the fuck away to the following tuesday. I fell in love with this music all over again, and the thing is...THE WAY they used the music. I dunno, they don't just give you the straight up cliche use of them you know...Like strawberry fields is not sung in a field of strawberries or anything. And BECAUSE of that, and the love and knowledge of the music, I think it is that going into the film's story world with the emotions and stories these characters bring...the songs become so alive again. that's why the movie worked on me.
and fuck people saying there was no plot. i didn't want to sit there and have people going on and on about why the motivations behind things. it's a 2 hour movie not a 5 night CBS miniseries about the 60s. WE FEEL and KNOW their motivations, if you listen to them singing and see their acting. i dunno what more story people need. i thought there was something in it for everyone. and I LOVED ALL the characters.
I am completely charmed by Jim Sturgess but even more in LOVE with Joe Anderson. And Evan Rachel Wood I keep telling people about. Ever since Thirteen, or moreso since Pretty Persuasion. I hope those old farts at the Oscars give it up to this relatively young cast.
All i know is...the songs are totally surprising in their presentation. and WOW the presentation. I knew it would be a favorite film of mine, when it made me cry.
And i cried when Max starts to sing Hey Jude. I never really liked that song so much, you know? But in this film, it's the one whose opening words brought me to tears. I think that says a lot about the film, it's actors, and the story.
anyway...here's what I <3'd so much:
Without a doubt I've never loved a platonic friendship more than Max and Jude's in this movie. Why? For some reason, I didn't get slashy feelings. I just loved them both so much separately, and loved their love for one another. awwww.
Prudence kicked ass. I loved the closet scene.
The cast was fucking awesome as an ensemble cast. I was really happy at getting to know this little family, and it's sad because I think it succeeded (in the movie's 60s) where RENT failed a few years ago in cinemas (in the movie's 90s).
There's really too much. But I'll say, Max's eyes. Lucy's crying. Prudence's little piano. The funeral scene. The recruitment scene. All the colors. All the laughable parts.
It doesn't take itself seriously. You will lawl. I hope. And laugh. and cry. and sing along. and stand up and clap i hope. like my audience did.
ALSO REQUEST: if you love me, make me across the universe LJ icons? pweeze? especially max and jude and prudence.
