Oscar post (or, why I love Hellboy II)

Oh goodness... Picture heavy!

Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Dark Knight

Those are INCREDIBLE. But I'm actually really rooting for Hellboy. Sure the makeups in Dark Knight were well done, but it wasn't on such an epic scale. And Benjamin Button had some fantastic age makeups, but I could see prosthetic edges some of them, and a couple of Cate Blanchett's age makeups were a bit awkward.
Hellboy is just... full of beautifully applied makeups. They're all so elegant and whimsical. Plus, I'm biased because I really want to work at Spectral Motion, the FX lab that did it. heh.

So here's a photo essay on why Hellboy is so frigging incredible.

First of all, how can you not be in love with all the work that goes into something like this?

Doug Jones was in makeup for 8 hours every day. Sometimes longer. He had makeup call sometimes at midnight to be ready at 8am.

This is Doug Jones. Next to himself in makeup.

By the way, he also played the Faun and the Pale Man in Pan's Labyrinth. He plays three characters in Hellboy II.
Abe Sapien is a beautiful design.

This is Ron Perlman.

Stunningly detailed.

Luke Goss.

Anna Walton.

Angel of Death, also played by Doug Jones.

This character is nothing short of elegant.... twistedly elegant haha.

Wink. Some people think this character was CG. Nope. It was a real guy in a suit. The mechanical hand even really retracted!

Guillermo del Toro with one of the trolls from the Troll Market.

A couple designs for Troll Market characters.

and THAT's why I think Hellboy II should get the Oscar. =D
