Yesterday, after leaving work a little early, I headed out to take some
photographs around town. I went to a few sites, most just because they
offered a vantage view of the Black Warrior River. Most are
sepia, just because I enjoy how shadow and light become so enhanced in
a picture with limited color.
A train trestle, on the Northport side, going over the Black Warrior
toward Tuscaloosa.
Another rustic train trestle and building - alongside evidence
of our recently bountiful rains in Northport.
A bridge over the Black Warrior, from Northport to Tuscaloosa.
The Tuscaloosa bank of the Black Warrior.
Downtown Northport, after 5:00 PM.
A downtown
barber shop, that was still functioning after-hours. (Am I
intentionally likening my new hometown to Mayberry? It just lends
itself well.)
More of Northport, site of the City Cafe and the Northport
5 & 10 (all big hits, by day). The town also has a wealth of
art galleries and shops. It's really one of the most thriving small towns I've seen in West Alabama - and with
screenings, let me say I feel I've nearly seen them all.
Back on the Tuscaloosa
side of the Black Warrior - Capitol Park. This was the site of
the state's capital (and capitol) from 1826-1846. It burned in
the 1920s, I believe.
The foundation still stands, in parts.
Now, off to get Chinese food with Laura for lunch.
