Fan Fic Author Appreciation Takes 2 and 3

Well, I missed updating my LJ yesterday, so I'm going to appreciate two authors tonight instead of just one. These authors are Erin--of Mercury Rising fame--and twistinside82Erin's fics are quite possibly the H-H-H-HOTTEST fics in the fandom! I constantly marvel at her ability to write B/J sex scenes that are exciting, believable and fun. She does not sound ( Read more... )

I go through regular bouts of insomnia too and thinking about it only makes it worse. I've been told by the docs that the best thing to do is, if you can't get to sleep in a reasonable amount of time (and "reasonable" varies for different people -- I am usually awake at least 30 to 60 minutes after I hit the pillow, unless I'm exhausted)... anyhoo, if you can't get to sleep in the time that you normally do, GET UP. Watch a little TV, read a book, take a bath... just try to wind down for half an hour. Then go back to bed and try again. Usually staying up for that half hour and doing something relaxing will enable you to actually sleep when you go back to bed.

**This week's Public Service Announcement brought to you by Justin Taylor and the anti-sleep-aid association. ;)

Another insomniac here, jumping on the PSA from JT and the ASAA... That all sounds good, and definitely helps me when I'm going through a bout of insomnia. Plus, I take melatonin. It doesn't work for everyone, but it really works for me. The key is to go to sleep when you start feeling sleepy, which I know sounds obvious, but in my experience you have a sleepy and relaxed window of like 15 minutes, and if you go to sleep then, you're fine. If not, it doesn't matter that you took the melatonin at all. And it doesn't leave me groggy in the morning, which is key.

I'd never heard of taking melatonin before. But, isn't that the chemical that's in bread that makes you calm down? I had four pieced of cinnamon toast last night before bed and I was as relaxed as I could be. Wonder if melatonin was part of that. Hmm. . .
Thanks for the great advice!

I don't know if melatonin is in bread... That could explain why carbs make you so sleepy... Now I'm going to have to research it.

And no problem on the advice, I've been an on again/off again insomniac for my whole life, and just starting taking melatonin this year. It really made a difference for me.
