4 reasons why you shouldn't do it in the first placemeechiepieApril 8 2010, 13:57:41 UTC
#1 don't do it, they don't usually work. Try to form relationships with people you can interact with in person and get to know that way.
#2 if you DO choose to do an online relationship, meet before it's a relationship so it's not a appointment :B
#3 physical attraction is an important thing, intellectual attraction is important but won't always hold a relationship. Plus, there are reasons why in person is better. The smell of the person, if you like it it means you're compatible, if you hate it... not so much. Pheromones and such.
#4 people are different online than they are in person. Whether they are a sweetie pie online or a bitch in person, or perhaps really outgoing online and immensely shy in person, you don't know who they REALLY are.
What mecchiepie said - MEET FIRST, like a weekend in a big city between the places you live. If it doesn't work, you can always back out. That was the trouble I had when I met Prince-Consort Tesser online ... we were intellectual soulmates, but I didn't find out everything else didn't mesh until we already promised to marry and it was too late. Only NOW (about ten years later) I was finally able to get rid of him.
Another rule - TRUST YOUR GUT. If you have little nagging doubts, LISTEN to them. Hormones can try to overrule, but it's better to be safe than having to go through a divorce (or faking your death).
this is all very good advice. i feel like you had to go through all these trail and errors for a reason, perhaps.. to know what you truly want and need in a relationship. you are becoming more aware of this and that's always a good thing imo ;)
