I take it from reading between the lines that you hit vondal with some spells accidentally?

Well, "accidentally" is a relative term.

If "he was in the way of my spell" and "the poor bugger ended up bloodied" is one interpretation, then yes, I hit him accidentally.

It's what happens when you put yourself right in the middle of the battle, and I'm trying to hit as many foes as possible. In my line of work, I call that "collateral damage".

There was no accident. It wasn't so much the 21pts of damage that crushed me but the -4AC which meant I got hit a ton of times more.
