Completely my favourite song on the Album. It's beautifully personal, and just has such a wonderfully blissed-out feeling towards the end. I can't help but love it so much.

This and Rescued were the first two songs off of IV that I immediately fell in love with. The others took me longer, but they've all brought me around at one point or another. :)
1) Yep, I thought it referred to the people of Berlin. (It could, for that matter, be the people of any city and their relationship to a star or rather "comet" of the stage. In this case, though, Berlin!)
2) I agree, it does "sound" more like leave, but my mind autocorrects it to "left"... I think this line is all about being passive, like you said. Taking as few risks as possible, just letting the opportunity to explore this strange new place slip by.
3) The language barrier was a big part, I bet, both on the stage and off! Also he had no friends or acquaintances or support system or *anything* overseas.
4) One of the things I love about this song is that Ann and the Germans are synonymous at times. The lines blur between them. In embracing the Germans, along with the language and culture and opportunity, he opened up the door to get to know Ann as
