OotP Part 2

OMFG REMUS/SIRIUS FTW!!! *fangirls*

Ok, let me get this part over with. Remus was most certainly cuddled up to Sirius when we first saw them. Also, he was looking very much the proud...father/godfather-in-law??? when he was watching Sirius and Harry. The Remus/Sirius parts were tragically few, but the few that were there were omgperfect! Still, I definitely needed more mourning over Sirius at the end.

Which brings me nicely to Sirius' death. As I said before, "FAIL." The death itself was just wrong, but I was especially bothered by the lack of mourning afterwards.

In fact, the entire Ministry scene bothered me. Where were the other rooms? Where was that love room? What about the other prophecies we heard when they all broke? Does that mean they aren't important? What about the brain-y things? The other members of the DA? Just FAIL!

Also, they left out WAAAY too many things. As was pointed out to my by jaina12, Bill/Fluer just didn't exist. We all know Weasley Is Our King got snubbed. As much as I hate her, Ginny needed to be scene more in this movie. As much of a shock as it was in the book when she suddenly showed up over two books, it will be even more weird when she just suddenly pops out of nowhere in one movie. She needed to be seen replacing Harry in Quidditch. Regulus Black and Mundungus were completely left out, which to me is pretty much a giant hint for Deathly Hallows. There was only one bit of interaction between Harry and Draco, which while small in the book, should have been even a little more in the movie to prepare for the next one (all slash aside). Even Kreacher was almost left out! The completely ignored his part in Sirius' death!

One of the biggest things they left out that is absolutely driving me crazy is Lucius getting arrested. As far as I could tell (of course I had trouble following most of the film anyway), there was not even a hint that Lucius had been arrested. That is a HUGE deal! Not only was it a big deal in that book and to the particular story of Lucius and the other Malfoys, but it was also important to HBP! The scene in the beginning of HBP with Harry and Draco on the train is a very important scene! Not only does it show the first shift in Draco's character and the way he and Harry interact, it also is why Harry was late yet again, and it involved Tonks, her angst, and the development of Lupin/Tonks.

Also, the fact that they almost left Kreacher out hints that they aren't or weren't planning to include the bit of HBP where Harry has Dobby and Kreacher trail Draco. That is another rather big part of plot that might be missing! I'm sure I'll come up with even more things the more I think about it. I'm sure it will be really bad once I reread the book. I haven't read this since my senior year of high school as of right now and it still bothers me this much.

Ok, now for some good things. Prepare yourself!

Ok, Snape/Harry, anyone??? Granted, Harry wasn't on his hands and knees in Snape's office, which I was waiting for with bated breath, but it was still good. Granted, as with everything else in this movie, it could have been better. If it really had been as bad as it was in the book, though, I'm not sure I could have have handled it. I was a giggling/squeeing puddle as it was. At least I had Levi next to me. He is one of the funniest people I could have sat with during that movie. We spent the rest of the night shouting, "Prepare yourself!" Which, in case you don't remember, was what Snape instructed Harry to do. Unfortunately, I will now never be able to rid my mind of the image that line conjured. It was completely unbidden. Snape said that and my mind decided to make the dirtiest, filthiest image it could. To those around me during the movie, that's one reason I spazzed so badly in the theater. It was very unfortunate, and made even worse by the fact that I'd seen that leather picture just before I saw the movie. *shudder*

Moving on, Severus Snape owns my soul as well. He and Lucius have it on time-share. Alan Rickman's acting just reminded me why I love him so much. That man is amazing! The scene with Snape's worst memory when he told Harry to get out. Holy shit, that was so good! As always, I was cringing from the acting until Jason Isaacs, Alan Rickman, and in this case Gary Oldman and David Thewlis came onscreen.

Now, as for the new cast members, I am mixed. First, Tonks was bad. I've disliked her look every since I first saw her in costume. She doesn't look right at all (mousy, people!), and her hair was not purple most of the time. It was short and pink! Her acting was alright, at least what I noticed of it, and her clumsiness was good, but the look is just too wrong. I also thought they left the character out of the story too much. She needed more development if she is going to be so involved from here on out.

Second, Luna was also mixed. When I first saw the actress I was mad. She didn't look like my image of Luna at ALL. The only thing they had right was the hair. My Luna was much taller and so skinny she was lanky. However, the moment I heard her speak I thought, "Holy fuck it's Luna." So, I'm mixed. The look could have been better, but the voice was good. As for the acting, it could have been better, but it was still Luna enough.

Third, Umbridge was just ok. I didn't like her when I first saw her because I didn't think she looked the part enough. They did well with her costumes, but I still think she should have been fatter. The acting was very good, though. She did have the voice and the barely restrained rage covered with a fake layer of sweetness. In fact, she sort of reminded me of one of my old teachers. *shudder* Still, I don't know whether it was the actress (whom I like in other things, btw), the script, or what, but I just didn't hate her as much as I should have. Also, since this sort of fits here, the twins rebellion thing could have been sooo much better.

Last but not least, Bellatrix Lestrange. HOT. The actress is absolutely perfect. Her look was spot on, and her acting was wonderful! I was already happy about her in the movie (I love her in the book already), but the moment she licked her dark mark, I fell in love. OMG, I fangirled Bella for the entire movie. It was so bad that I nearly cheered when Sirius died. I mean, I was crying for him (what little bit I could manage), but I was so enraged that they had her use the killing curse that I couldn't feel much either way. Then she started singing, and it made me laugh. MY GOD I LOVE BELLA! Did anyone else get a rather brief but disturbing Lucius/Bella vibe?

Hmm, what else? Lucius costumes disturbed me, but I like them. He also did something this his hair. I liked that, too. Overall, I liked his look (although was was WAY too tan), but then again, I love me some drag queens. Still, the acting was marvelous! I'm glad we got to see Lucius being evil. Usually we just see him angry and embarrassed. This time we got to see him doing the calm, deceiving, psychological shit that I love him for. As always, Jason Isaacs played him beautifully, no pun intended.

The punch! OMG the punch was great! Although, I don't remember that in the book. If it was added, I'm going to have to question the screenwriters fetish of making people get punched in the movie that weren't in the book. (Hello, Draco?!? He got slapped, not punched.) Anyway, I was fangirling over Lucius, then I was cheering for Sirius, and then I was fangirling Sirius! It was I had a fangirl on either shoulder and one was rooting for the Deatheaters while the other was all about Remus/Sirius. Of course I kept fangirling Sirius after that. I gasped out loud when he shouted at Harry and called him James. I threw my hand over my mouth, gasped, and cried. I'm still not even sure what I think about it. All I know what that it was really powerful.

Speaking of powerful things making me cry...the first time I saw the veil was when I remembered that Sirius was going to die. Somehow I'd blocked that from my mind before the movie, and until then I could have sworn he and Remus were going to get married. When I saw the veil it all crashed back to me and I cried. Also, further back when Sirius and Harry were talking by the family tree and he told Harry that when it was all over they would be a real family (or whatever he said exactly) I cried SO HARD. Not only because it was so incredibly sad and powerful, but because I swear he was talking about Harry, himself, and Remus. Did anyone else get that vide? OMG knowing that it wouldn't happen was so angsty. That was probably the most I cried during the entire movie.

The only other thing I can think of is the rather obvious but slightly disturbing Sirius/Harry vibe I was getting throughout the whole movie. I mean, I usually don't like Sirius/Harry, but halfway through the movie I found myself leaning over to Ben and whispering, "This is weird. For some reason I really want them to kiss right now."

Oh! Cho. WTF Cho. First of all, yes Harry was all about her that year, but good grief did she have to be a bigger character than some of the ones who where meant to be important? Also, I know that kiss didn't last that long in the book, right? Right?!? I tried not to watch, but the whole time I just kept thinking about my manip. You spend that much time staring that the grime on those mirrors by the pixel and you'll notice them anywhere. Still, it made me throw up a little in my mouth. Also, Cho was NOT the traitor!!! That pissed me off! Although, it did amuse me to see Draco manhandling Cho like he really hated her. Of course, he would hate her since she had all of Harry's attention. Ahem, excuse me.

Lastly, the Ron/Hermione was so cute, even if they were only minor characters. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Ron supposed to be a bit of a big deal? I'd rather have watched him in the movie than Emma Watson. I swear, I couldn't stop staring at her eyebrows the entire time. It's truly disturbing.

I'll finish by pointing out the look on Draco's face when Umbridge slapped Harry. I'm sure it was unintentional, but wouldn't you think that Draco would have smiled and been glad to see Potter slapped? As it were, he didn't. In fact, he looked very subtly disturbed. It made me fangirl.
