If she's over 40lbs and there's a head rest in the position she'd sit in they're fine. They're not my favorite, but we have one for situations like your's. If you can finagle her into the center of the car, she'd get side impact protection from car positioning instead of her seat. If not, it should still be okay.

If she's under 40lbs, she needs to be in a highback.
