NEVER BUY A SONY VAIO!!!

May 01, 2014 11:05

I need to study right now for an exam tomorrow, but I'm way too pissed, so I need to let off some steam.

Thing is, last spring I bought myself a new computer and, since it's supposed to last at least until I finish my PhD (I'm still at my master thesis), I spend a little more money on it. Surprisingly the best cost-benefit ratio was a Sony Vaio, which I already wanted back when I got my first notebook and when a Vaio was way too expensive.

Now, I'm beginning to regret my choice.

In February my dear computer started to not recognize my mouse anymore (though somehow it still worked, but I kept being shown the message of an unknown device being plugged in EVERY TWO SECONDS) and half of my USB ports stopped working. Yeah, damn effin great. So I had to bring it to the customer service at the end of the month. Since two of my keys had come off and unfortunately one of them being the space key - which, trust me, you can't live without - I told them I wanted the keyboard exchanged as well. I knew I had to pay for that part, and they told me I would get sent an estimate of costs which I needed to accept first. The guy told me all in all it would take three weeks. Well. Said letter arrived after two weeks, and in the beginning of this month I called and asked where my notebook was since it had been six weeks by then. Apparently Sony is verrry slow since they processed my acceptance only three days prior to my call. Yay.

Yesterday I called again. Effin nine weeks since my notebook was gone. And what do I hear? They had sent me an SMS last week, which I never received. Nice. But I was euphoric to finally get my notebook back and went to get it directly after ending the call.

It's not like I was without a computer during all this time. I had gotten the notebook of my late grandmother as subsitute, but it's too big for my liking and it's Windows Vista which I now understand why people say it is a bad system software. Anyway, it was meant to be temporary (for three weeks, mind you) and better than nothing. Since I still had several tabs open when I went to get my Vaio, I had kept working on it until I went to bed, with having to send myself an email with all my new bookmarks and all.

So I had kept the joy of finally having my own notebook again for today. After taking a shower I exchanged the computer on my desk and pressed on, getting really happy when the Vaio logo appeared. Only to be kicked in the gut a second later when a notice showed up to switch to the computer settings to set up Windows.

What?

The screen told me I need to activate Windows, and that there is no user account on the computer. I couldn't believe my eyes.

This basically means that everything I had on my notebook is gone. I'm damn effin glad that I remembered to save all my personal data (except for a few pics, but oh well) on my external hard drive which I hadn't done in a while. If I hadn't... then all would be lost. Strictly spaking there is something I lost. My firefox bookmarks. Losing my user account never occured to me as a possible outcome so I didn't saved them. All my hourlong research concerning PhD courses was in vain, all information I had gathered is gone.

Thank you, Sony.

Of course today has to be a holiday. I need to wait until tomorrow to go there and ask them what the hell they have done and why they didn't tell me beforehand that I would lose my user account. Imagine I wouldn't have saved my data on my external hard drive! Ah, maybe it means I will have to send it in again? If so, I'm going to insist on it being done within two weeks (I'm way too nice for giving them that much time). That's not how they can treat their customers! Keep my notebook for nine weeks and then having deleted my hard drive!

I'm so effin pissed right now, and at the same time I feel like crying. All I wanted was my Vaio to function properly again and to be able to type normally. And now this.

Never, ever buy a Sony Vaio!

Or anything Sony.

Their customer service is shit.

everyday madness
