The biggest news I have -

Mar 26, 2009 22:28

I have read FIFTY pages of a real, live, grown up book.  When Lilah and I were surviving without Ben a couple of weeks ago, I packed her up and took her to Barnes and Noble, from where I had a gift card that was burning a hole in my pocket.  In addition to a craft magazine, I picked out two books - one from the clearance section and one from the ( Read more... )

I just finished this book! I really enjoyed it (as in I found it interesting, but a happy story necessarily) but I'm fascinated in this type of lifestyle (again, as in interesting).

Congrats on reading an adult book! I have a hard time fitting reading into my everyday life... I don't know how you do it supermom!

Yeah, I'm fascinated by polygamy stories for some reason! I can't wait to get through it. I am still so close to the beginning, where the third wife comes into the picture.

I'm glad you liked it! And I am NOT a supermom. LOL She would not have a mountain of laundry to fold that she ignores in favor of reading ;-)

I read this book last year; I really liked it a lot. I was almost done with it when the Texas polygamy thing went down, and they're all from the same families!

I wanted to buy it when it came out, but I was trying to be all good and not buy all the books, but when it's only $6.99 or something and you've gotta gift card, well...

:-D

I'm so glad other people I know have read it! I am telling you - the polygamy thing is fascinating to me...I will watch all the Datelines and 60 Minuteses on it ;-)

Also, I read "Under the Banner of Heaven" many years ago, so that's why I feel like I have some sort of unhealthy fascination with the FLDS people. LOL

Ooh, I liked that one too! I was *this close* to being a religion major in college and I find it all just fascinating.

Don't you love it when LJ eats your comments? Anyway.

Reading is awesome. Congratulations on finding the time! I'm reading heaps of travel narratives, and it's giving me wanderlust.

My sister-in-law has lent me all her Bill Bryson books, but reading about traveling right now would be torture since lack of cash and baby are keeping me home indefinitely.

What do you usually read?

Not that I'm setting you up for a condescending put-down or anything. I'm just curious.

LOL - I seem to read a lot of books based on people's real life stories or fiction that is very real - I read very little fantasy or sci fi stuff just because I find it more difficult to engross myself in those types of stories for some reason. One author I've found myself readig a lot of is Jodi Piccoult, even though I wouldn't consider myself into legal thrillers (she says, as if she doesn't watch 90 hours of Law & Order a month!)

You're doing better than I am! The only thing I read is Parents magazine. I'm too busy and reading makes me sleepy.

Last summer I read Under the Banner of Heaven. A lot of Forrest's family is Mormon, so his mom (not Mormon) gave him the book to read. He never did, but I thought it was really interesting.

Well, it takes me forever to read a magazine, so I think this will be my book for the year. lol

I learned a lot from that book; I have all these Mormon friends but they don't give you the real scoop. lol
